Phil and Monique Wiedel were pioneers in Danbury land conservation, as founding members of the land trust in the early 1970s.  In 1975, their gift of five acres off Long Ridge Road was the second in the land trust’s history.  Then in 1999, they donated 69 additional acres, which remains as the largest parcel in the land trust’s history.  The two parcels are now part of a 108-acre preserve.  Also, Phil served on the Board of Directors for 14 years and as President for 10 years.

Phil is survived by Monique, daughters Suzanne and Janine and three grandchildren.  He will be greatly missed by them and by all of us who had the opportunity to know him and work with him.

The family has suggested memorial gifts to The Land Trust of Danbury, PO Box 32, Danbury, CT 06813, or the Philip D. Wiedel M.D. Fund for Humanism and the Surgeon, CUMC Development, 100 Haven Ave., Suite 29D, New York, NY 10032.
